Kaplice

Our strategic urban study for Kaplice sets out a long-term vision for the town’s development in the context of its changing position between České Budějovice and Linz in Austria. In response to the completion of the D3 motorway and the planned modernisation of the railway, we are exploring how the town’s new accessibility can be harnessed to develop housing, employment and civic amenities.
At the same time, we focus on connecting the individual parts of Kaplice, improving the quality of public spaces and restoring the town’s relationship with the River Malše. In doing so, we are creating a coherent framework for future development that makes use of Kaplice’s potential while respecting its historic character, natural assets and human scale.

New Opportunities for the Town’s Development
The completion of the D3 motorway and the planned modernisation of the railway will strengthen Kaplice’s strategic position between České Budějovice and Linz in Austria.
Better accessibility brings opportunities for housing, jobs and the development of services. In our study, we therefore present a comprehensive concept that links the town’s urban, transport, landscape and social development.

Developing the Town, Preserving Its Identity
Our design builds on the qualities that characterise Kaplice – its historic centre, its proximity to nature, the River Malše and the pleasant scale of the town. We explore options for developing housing, civic amenities and public spaces, with an emphasis on the quality of everyday life. Our ambition is not to transform Kaplice fundamentally, but to develop its potential sensitively.
One of the key themes is restoring the town’s relationship with the River Malše. We see it as a green axis connecting the different parts of Kaplice. We propose new footpaths and cycle routes, footbridges, places to rest and public spaces that bring life back to the river and create room for recreation and meeting.

A Long-term Vision That Gives Development Direction
We focus on better connections between the town’s districts, access to services and a high-quality network of public spaces. We place emphasis on safe movement for pedestrians and cyclists and on links to the transport infrastructure. Our goal is a compact, legible and pleasant town for everyday life.
With our study, we are creating a conceptual framework for the town’s future decision-making, investment planning and the coordination of individual projects. Rather than presenting a list of specific buildings, we offer a long-term vision that allows Kaplice to develop gradually, sustainably and while preserving its own identity.
