In the heart of Cape Breton Highlands National Park on Canada’s eastern coast, an ambitious year-round tourist destination is taking shape based on our design. The project builds upon the original Cape Smokey ski resort and transforms it into a vibrant destination that attracts visitors throughout all seasons — not only to the ski slopes, but also to the oceanfront, treetops, and a network of newly created urban spaces.
The central idea behind the proposal is the fusion of nature’s power with architecture that has the potential to bring new life to the area — not only through tourism, but also by strengthening the local community. A modern resort is emerging, offering facilities for living, working, and recreation. The master plan includes a hotel, marina with a pier, restaurant, wellness center, sports trails, a treetop walk, and a gondola lift connecting to the upper part of the resort.
One of the site’s iconic features will be the “Cube” restaurant, set in a dramatic natural landscape, along with a unique ski slope that symbolically ends at the ocean. The entire project is conceived as a long-term vision, offering space for permanent housing for up to 3,500 people and setting the stage for organic regional development over the coming decade.
