Green-Blue Centre

The urban study for Jaroměř focuses on transforming public spaces and strengthening the relationship between the historic town and the River Labe. The design treats the town as an interconnected system of streets, squares, embankments and green spaces which together should create a better environment for everyday life. It brings more greenery and water into the centre, revitalises the riverside and applies the principles of blue-green infrastructure, which help retain rainwater, improve the microclimate and support biodiversity.

An important theme is reopening the town towards the river. The banks of the Labe are transformed from a marginal space into a natural part of the centre and gain new qualities as places to spend time. Streets and squares are understood not only as traffic areas but above all as places for meeting, relaxation and everyday urban life.

The design also strengthens the links between the individual parts of the centre and creates conditions for the return of small services, shops and businesses. Public space thus becomes a tool for the wider revitalisation of the town – connecting history, landscape and the present-day needs of residents, and creating a more resilient and pleasant urban environment.
