StatusCompleted

The shopping gallery in Přerov was conceived as a contemporary urban department store, complementing traditional civic amenities with a new type of shopping environment based on the principle of an internal arcade.

The compact two-storey volume responds to its urban setting with a rounded corner facing the junction and a light membrane canopy over the ground floor. The main layout axis is formed by arcades connecting the entrances from two streets, which function as internal streets and organise movement throughout the gallery. Retail units are arranged around them, while the central atrium, escalators, lifts and rooflights ensure clear orientation and bring daylight deep into the floor plan.

The design thus combines a simple massing and operational solution with a unified architectural expression of interior and exterior, while seeking a more active relationship between the building and the adjoining urban space.

A Clear Urban Form

The architecture of the building is based on a simple and clear layout and massing. The compact rectangular volume responds to its urban setting with a rounded corner facing the junction, while a light membrane canopy extends the ground floor along part of the façades.

The main volume has two above-ground floors, above which rise the circulation cores, the central atrium and the plant sections. The roof of the third floor also serves as an outdoor car park.

Light and Movement

The layout is based on shopping arcades connecting the main entrances from Čechova and Šířava streets. They act as internal streets and the main circulation spine of the whole building. The individual retail units are arranged around this public space on two floors, creating a simple and easily legible structure for the gallery.

The two levels of the arcade are connected by escalators in its northern and southern parts, while the lifts are concentrated in the centre of the plan. Natural light is brought deep into the building by rooflights and the main atrium, which becomes the spatial and orientational focal point of the entire gallery.
