Sheltered Housing

The sheltered housing building in Horažďovice is designed as lively, community-oriented housing for senior citizens, responding to the picturesque, at times almost spa-like character of the town. The building is part of a new district and offers a total of forty-four small flats complemented by shared spaces that support everyday contact between residents.
The basic motif of the layout is a gallery-access building, which opens up slightly on the ground floor to create a space reminiscent of a small square or promenade, onto which the communal facilities are connected.
The interior is conceived as a colourful and naturally lived-in environment that makes room for personal belongings, pictures, textiles and elements of social life such as a piano or a billiard table. The south-facing flats have deep loggias with sliding timber louvres, while the north side opens onto the promenade and access galleries with a large glazed wall that strengthens the visual connection between the private and shared parts of the building.

Dialogue between Old and New
The floors accommodate a total of forty-four small flats. On the ground floor, a slight opening-up of the gallery-access building creates a space reminiscent of a small square or promenade, onto which the communal facilities are connected. This space becomes a natural meeting place for the residents.
On the south side, the flats have deep loggias with sliding timber louvres. The north side faces the promenade and access galleries and features a large glazed wall that strengthens the visual contact between the interior and the shared spaces.
