RAILWAY STATION RECONSTRUCTION

The architecture of the building is based on the contrast of the horizontal form with the levitating vertical mass of the administrative part. The main entrance is placed in the most prominent position just below the tower and highlights its importance. The orientation of the windows where the lower horizontal floors are glazed towards the entrance is also an important element in this view and in contrast the tower is left completely windowless as a “heavy mass”. This composition allows for a unique view from the resulting gallery, but today it is not used to its potential. The interior already has a fairly clear functional scheme, with two administrative areas “revolving” around the patios, starting from the centrally located lobby, symmetrically placed. These internal courtyards have now been suppressed over time and the design works with them in concept by using these spaces as residences for office and service areas extending the day rooms to the exterior with partial roofing. After surveys, we prefer to reinstate the glass ceiling that illuminated the interior of the basement level.
