KAMÝK NAD VLTAVOU, CZECHIA
2017

The architectural study is a continuation of the previous verification study of the municipality’s port infrastructure.

Kamýk nad Vltavou. The location of the building was part of the assignment. It is located in an active flood zone and therefore the building is situated as far away from the river as possible. The main rooms are located above the Q100 level (274.48 m above sea level).

The operational building responds to the problematic situation of being located in the active zone. The dominant element is a massive concrete (alt. steel) structure laid on a “shaft” on the ground floor. The entire 2nd floor is elevated above the 1st floor. The second dominant element is the access staircase evoking harbour bridges. The staircase and the service buildings are connected by a bridge – as on a ship. The whole building is vertically divided into three parts: the manager’s office, showers and toilets for visitors and the office of the Police Department. The accessibility solution is solved by a lift, which will be technically designed so that it will not be damaged by flooding.
