LA CRONE RESIDENCE

PRAHA

2017

The land in the shape of an inverted U is located on the edge of Strahov Hill with views of Prague. Eight three-storey viladoms with identical basic volume contain a total of 76 apartments of sizes 1-5+kk. Parking for residents is underground. The prisms and cubes of the buildings are framed by receding floors and complemented by terraces, loggias and balconies. Window and door openings are placed in the clean volumes. Each house is individually conceived, the facades are based on the asymmetrical compositions of modern painting of the first half of the 20th century. There will be three types of spaces: public (a transverse public park as a pedestrian link), semi-public (a campus community space) and private (gardens). The project is complemented by abundant orchard and park landscaping. An essential consideration was the search for an optimum scale in relation to the built-up stabilized surroundings. The new residence responds to the current situation, its operation and character integrates the important relationships and processes that belong to this part of the city. The material solution reinforces the overall architectural concept. The thin layered plaster in broken white towards light grey with deeper shadows thrown in is complemented by wooden cladding in accentuated areas in addition to glass in the openings.
