About the project

The project for the new central area of Čestlice thoughtfully develops the village towards greater cohesion, community life, and a sustainable environment. At the heart of the proposal is the creation of a new public center – a village square by the revitalized pond – which serves as a natural meeting point and organizes pedestrian flows across the area.

The architecture works with a human scale and diversity. The new residential buildings are arranged around a quiet inner courtyard, evoking the atmosphere of a traditional farmstead. The outer façades use simple plaster to blend in with the surrounding buildings, while the public functions are highlighted with a distinctive deep red façade cladding. The design naturally differentiates between public and semi-private spaces, contributing to a sense of home and safety.

The new village square becomes a vibrant hub of the community. Surrounded by municipal buildings housing public amenities such as a library, community hall, or restaurant, the square is designed to accommodate farmers’ markets, celebrations, or peaceful moments by the water. The pond is complemented by greenery, a wooden pier, seating steps, and willow trees gently leaning over the water.

The entire area is designed to be permeable, intuitive, and natural. Emphasis is placed on high-quality public spaces, the support of community life, and the integration of greenery.
