BB CENTRUM - BUDOVA A

PRAGUE, CZECHIA

2018

The building with an H-shaped footprint rises up from a rectangular base. An offset glass façade with an acknowledged loadbearing structure protects the building against the noise from the motorway and the busy street. The main entrance opens to bottom of the atrium cascading up through the all stories. At the top, the atrium opens to the light that flows down through the whole building like a waterfall. The building’s appearance is clear and unified; it plays more with light than materials and it may resemble factories, but for white-collars workers.  Natural and artificial light is mixed in the multi-storey lobby without any discernible relationship to the daytime or night. The while amoeba of the reception counter embraced by strict horizontals and verticals dominates the space by its soft roundness evoking memories of various parts of human body.

The building was revitalized in 2018. The biggest change is the new facade, which is made up of white alucobond cassettes. The pre-set glass façade on the front of the building has accentuated steelwork in turquoise. The seventh floor now has a 1,400 m2 roof garden with gazebos, greenery and relaxation areas, with additional green areas in the glass atriums.
